Festas dos Santos Populares (Festivals of Popular Saints), are the most significant religious events in Lisbon. During the month of June, the city regales in a festive mood for celebrating three Saints Day. Festa de Santo Antonio celebrated on June 12th and 13th is famous for its colorful parade, down the Avenida da Liberdade. This is followed by Festa de Sao Joao or the Festival of St John on June 23rd and 24th and Festa de Sao Pedro or Festival of St Peter on June 28th and 29th.
The Half Marathon of Portugal and the Dakar Rally are the popular sporting events of Lisbon. This marathon is famous not for its quality of runners but more so for the spectacular route that the athletes follow. The runners have to cover the Vasco da Gama bridge, which is 17.2 kilometers long and is famed as the longest bridge of Europe. The marathon ends at Parque das Nacoes adjacent to the pavilion of Portugal.

Dakar Rally is 15 day back breaking car rally through the most adverse terrains. Racers from 24 countries come to participate in this rally with their buggies, motor bikes, quad bikes and vehicles. The racers have to drive thousands of miles between Portugal and Senegal along the west coast of Africa. The race finishes at Lac du Rose near Dakar in Senegal.
The various music concerts and film festivals are important cultural events of Lisbon. IndieLisboa is a popular Lisbon film festival which celebrates independent cinema. Lisbon Village Festival is an annual movie festival, where filmmakers from all over the world participate to showcase different types of films. Super Bock Super Rock is one of the biggest rock festival in Lisbon. The festival is held in Parque do Tejo in Lisbon. People of Lisbon await the Almada Theater Festival held annually during the first week of July. The festival celebrates theaters in its different forms and colors.
