Thousands of tourists come to the capital city of Portugal to catch a glimpse of the Lisbon attractions. Although most of them were mercilessly destroyed due to the devastating earthquake, there are some, which still reflect the age-old origin.
The prime destinations of this city are very easy to cover in a very short span of time. The convenient public transport like trams, metro, buses, and funicular railways help the travelers to move around this steep city effortlessly.

The attractions of Lisbon are sited all across the different districts of Lisbon. Praça do Comércio is one of Europe's largest riverside districts, while the Rossío, a smaller, intimate square bustling with shops and cafés. The district that lies in the middle is the Baixa or Lower Town - this grid is a recent one with residential streets alongside. The Alfama is the old Moorish quarter of Lisbon that endured the earthquake. Alfama boasts the Sé or the city's cathedral and the Castelo de São Jorge or St. George's Castle. The Bairro Alto or Upper Town features the 17th-century streets, antique houses and churches. Belém is another quarter of the city housing the famous Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and several other museums. Modern Lisbon is evident in the district of Praça dos Restauradores. Each of the districts of Lisbon has its own charm and beauty.

Tourist Spots in Lisbon

  • Lisbon was a city with numerous castles and fortresses, much of them were ravaged by the earthquake and ruthless fire of 1755. However two of the worth seeing constructions exists, namely Saint George's Castle and Belem Tower. The former one is located at the Commercio Square and the later one at the Belem Square.

  • The magnificent palaces of Lisbon include Ajuda Palace (Belem), São Bento Palace (Benfica), Belem Palace (Belem) and Fronteira Palace (bairro Alto).

  • Lisbon being a city of historical significance, it boasts a number of outstanding works of architecture. Some of the notable ones are Discoveries Monument, The Aqueduct, The Roman Theater Ruins, 25 de Abril Bridge, Casa dos Bicos, Rossio Station, Monument to Christ, Campo Pequeno and others.

  • The catholic practices have been prevalent in Lisbon ever since its origin. Over the decades, this city has been a place of some outstanding churches. Some of the prominent ones are São Roque Church, Carmo Church, Jeronimos Monastery, The Cathedral, Basilica da Estrela, São Domingos Church, Saint Anthony Church, The National Pantheon, Graça Church, São Vicente de Fora Church and others.

  • The parks and gardens of this city are some of the most visited places because of its wide collection of flora and fauna. Tropical Garden, Botanical Garden, Edward VII Park, Miradouro de Santa Catarina, Estrela Gardens, Ajuda Botanical Garden are some of the popular ones.

  • The Comercio Square, Municipal Square, Figueira Square, Rua Augusta, Rossio Square, Avenida da Liberdade, Camões Square, Restauradores Square are some of the other places that are worth checking out.
Lisbon is filled with several monuments and buildings that are known for their architecture. Unique and modern architecture can be seen at the venues of Vasco da Gama Tower, Vasco da Gama Bridge, Belem Cultural Center, Lisbon Casino, Oceanarium, Atlantic Pavilion and many other places.

The spectacular city on the terraced steep hills overlooking the harbor and the tree-lined avenues and well maintained squares offer a relaxed place for a pleasurable vacation.
