University of Lodz


University of Lodz was established on May 24th, 1945. In the present days, University of Lodz happens to be the largest universities in Poland. There were 6 faculties of University of Lodz in the academic year 1945- 46, which were:
  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
  • Faculty of Pharmaceutics
  • Faculty of Medicine
  • Faculty of Dentistry
  • Faculty of Law and Economics
During the commencement of the university, there were 7147 students and 530 members of faculty. Today, there are 11 faculties in the university, which are:
  • Economics and Sociology
  • Biology and Environmental Protection
  • Philosophy and History
  • Philology
  • Mathematics
  • Physics and Chemistry
  • Educational Sciences
  • Geographical Sciences
  • International and Political Studies
  • Law and Administration
  • Management
University of Lodz has set up collaboration with 91 institutes of higher education belonging to 26 different countries. There are more than 42,500 students enrolled and about 2243 academic staffs in the University at present. The students of this University are able to receive double diplomas in the following areas:
  • Translation- agreement with University Strasbourg II
  • Management- agreement with the University Lyon III
  • Executive MBA- diploma of University of Maryland
  • Computer-based English language studies- agreement with Lancaster University
The faculty members of University of Lodz participate in many research programs that are held in foreign countries. The University also happens to be member of few organizations such as:

  • Alliance of Universities for Democracy
The governing team of the University consists of the Rectorat and Senate. The Rectorat include:

The academic year generally consist of 2 semesters. The duration of each semester is 15 weeks. The summer semester commences during middle of February and the winter semester starts from the first week of October. Examinations are conducted in the month of June and in September make-up examinations are held. There are more than 3 million volumes of collection in the University library.

The Center of Physical Education and Sports allows the students to participate in various sports activities. The University possesses 82 buildings for teaching and administrative staffs. Apart from this, there are 10 dormitories for the students and 4244 residential places.
