Muzeum Sztuki


The Muzeum Sztuki is one of the major tourist attractions of Lodz. The museum was located on the second floor of Plac Wolnosci’s city hall till 1939. First exhibition in the Muzeum Sztuki was organized on 13th April, 1930. After the end of the Second World War, the museum was shifted to its present location. The museum gained its current name after the state’s acknowledgement in 1950.

Collections of Muzeum Sztuki

Visitors to the museum can come across the rare paintings of popular artists like Picasso, Vantongerlo, Adler, and Leger. There are also paintings by renowned modern artists from Poland like Hiler, Witkiewish, Czyzewski in the museum.

Collection of paintings in the museum began from the year 1929 by the contributions of Katarzyna Kobro, Wladyslaw Strzeminski and Henryk Sta?ewskin along with some other artists. There were many donations in the museum after the end of World War II. About 203 works of popular young British artists were donated by Mateusz Grabowski, the owner of London Gallery in 1975. Also, American artists donated art works in the year 1983.

Library of Muzeum Sztuki

The library of the museum is there since its inception. There is reading room in the museum where the visitors can familiarize with the large collection of books.
There are about 22270 artistic exhibition catalogues, 16972 books and 915 titles of periodicals in the museum library.

Information on Muzeum Sztuki

Muzeum Sztuki remains closed on Mondays. The opening hours of the museum are:
  • On Tuesday the museum timings are from 10.00am to 5.00pm
  • On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the visitors can come from 12.00 pm and the museum remains closes at 5.00pm
  • On Saturday and Sunday, the timings are from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm
