The archaeology section of the Museum focuses on the pre-historic era dating back to the Stone Age and

extending to the medieval times.The Museum conducts research programs on the early historic sites with special emphasis on the Neolithic sites of Brzesc Kujawski and Oslonki. The ethnographic section harps on the central Poland traditional communities. The numismatic section of the Museum houses excellent collection of the ancient European coinage. Many scholars of worldwide fame are members of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of Lodz. Being one of the premier research institutions in Poland, the Museum also houses a laboratory preserving the traditional artifacts. It also operates one radiocarbon dating laboratory in Poland. The Museum also publishes a journal namely the 'Prace i Materialy Museum Archaeologicznego i Etnograficznego'. Another journal is 'Biblioteka Muzeum Archeologicznego i Etnograficznego w Lodzi', which is a monograph series.
