About the Place, Manufaktura
|
The Museum displays weaving tools and machines that were once used to make cotton. During the 19th century, Manufaktura housed a spinning mill. The mill was subject to multiple looting and pillage. It was also burnt down several times. Finally, the mill was restored by a wealthy businessman, Karol Scheibler. Karol not only reopened the spinning mill but also added several mills to the existing mill. For the convenience of the mill workers, Karol Scheibler also built a school and a hospital. In short, he developed an industrial township, equipped with civic amenities, within the existing city.
