Jack Tramiel is popular as the founder of Commodore International, which is a computer manufacturing company. He also became the CEO and President of Atari Group. Tramiel was born in Lodz in 1928.
Early Days of Jack Tramiel
Jack Tramiel, along with his family, used to live in the Jewish ghetto after the invasion of Nazi in 1939. Tramiel used to work in a garment factory during that period. After the Liquidation of the ghettos, Tramiel along with his father was sent to Auschwitz concentration camp. There his father died and he was rescued by the 84th Infantry Division.
In November 1947, Jack Tramiel went to United States to join the army. Later, when he was working as a taxi driver, he bought a shop and named it Commodore Portable Typewriter in 1953. In the shop, he used to repair machinery used in offices.

In 1955, Jack started a business of importing typewriters from Europe and in the same year he set up in Toronto, Commodore Business Machines. He got the name of the company from the back of a car

named Opal commodore.
Birth of Commodore
The company Commodore went public in 1962. It flourished from a calculator selling company to a company selling home computers including Commodore 64, which was launched in 1982.
Jack Tramiel and Tramel Technology
Jack resigned from Commodore on 13th January, 1984. Then he went on to form a mew company known as Tramel Technology, Ltd. This company was engaged in the job of designing and selling updated computers for home. Tramel Technology Ltd bought the consumer division of Atari Inc, and Jack's company was renamed Atari Corporation.
In 1996, Atari Corporation was merged with the company of Jugi Tandon Storage. The company used to manufacture disk drives. The new company, after merging, came to be known as JTS Corporation. After working for sometime in this company, Jack Tramiel joined the board of JTS.
Jack married his wife Helen in 1947. Leonard, Sam and Garry are the three sons of Jack and Helen.
