Tagalogs is the second largest ethnic group of Philippine. Taglogs were the original Austronesian settlers of Manila. The name of this group has been derived from the term “taga ilog” meaning “people living near a river”. The language spoken by these people is Tagalog, which is 14th most popular language in world.
Most of Tagalog people are Roman Catholics. The traditional culture of this group that existed in the Pre-Hispanic period has undergone sea change in the modern times. Over the years, people belonging to this group have accepted American, Chinese and Hispanic

culture.
Tagalogs used to practice agriculture as prime mode of occupation. Manila is the main center of population of the Taglogs and the city also happens to be their cultural seat. Many Filipino leaders belong to this ethnic group. The first President of Philippine, Emilio Aguinaldo, was also a Tagalog.
Fish and rice form major portion of the diet of Tagalog people. Pork and beef are also consumed by these people. Apart from Manila, some other regions, which are populated by Tagalogs, are Bataan, Aurora, Rizal, Palawan.
