Pasig River is originated from Philippines that connect Laguna de Bay to Manila Bay. The river is stretched on an area of 25 kilometers. It intersects the metropolis of Manila into two parts. Two major streams of Pasig River are called San Juan River and Marikina River. The Pasig River is a tidal estuary. The water level difference between Manila bay and Laguna de Bay are responsible for the water flow direction in the Pasig River.
Once upon a time the river used to be one of the important transportation routes in Manila. Over the years, the rivers turn into a polluted water body due to lack of maintenance and industrial garbage.

Efforts to revive Pasig River were started in 1989. The initiative was taken by Danish International Development Assistance. With the motive of re-vitalizing the river, a rehabilitation program was developed. This is called the Pasig River Rehabilitation Program.
Since 1989, the rehabilitation program has made the Pasig River dirt free. Like early times, it has again started functioning as one of the primary water transportation route in the city of Manila. The Pasig River water ferry provides regular services between Manila and Marikina City.
