The Paco Park used to be the municipal cemetery of Manila during the Spanish colonial period. It was constructed in 1820 for the victims of cholera and was designed by Nicolas Ruiz. Jose Burgos, Mariano Gomes and Jacinto Zamora, the three priests, who were executed in 1872 by the Spaniards, were buried in this place. Philippine national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal was also buried here in 1896. From 1912 onwards, the burial at the park has been stopped.
It is now a recreational park (since 1966 onwards) that is situated along the General Luna St in the district of Paco. The San Pancratius Chapel is situated at the back of the park. The park is decorated with frangipani and acacia trees. There is a beautiful fountain in the center of the park. It is
open for public visit from Monday to Sunday between 8 am and 5 pm. The Philippines Paco Park can be easily accessed by the UN Avenue (LRT station).
