Manila Government


Manila, the capital city of Philippines is administered and governed by a Mayor. Manila Government takes care of the 897 barangays, which are an integral part of the city. The barangays are the smallest units of local government in the city. Each of the barangays has its own chairperson and councilors. There are 16 administrative districts in Manila, Philippines that have around 100 zones under them. However, the zones and districts do not have any local government.

The Mayor of Manila is the head of the executive department in the city. The term of the Mayor is of three years. A city Mayor can be selected for three consecutive terms, however after one term he can again be reelected for the post of the Mayor. The Mayor takes care of the general welfare of the people of the city.
The Mayor of Manila is also helped and supported by the Vice-Mayor of the city. The Vice-Mayor is the head of the legislative section of the Government of Manila. The Legislative section of the Government comprises of the city councilors, who are elected by the people of the city. There are six congressional districts in Manila and the city councilors are selected from these districts.

Another important part about the Government, Manila is that there are six representatives, who are elected to the House of Representatives. These candidates are elected on the basis of popularity. The House of Representatives is the lower legislative branch in the Government of Philippines. Each of the representatives belongs to one of the six Congressional districts of Manila.
