Manila events and festivals take place throughout the year. The various events of Manila lead to a close association among the people. The celebrations throw a deep light on the art and culture of Manila City. A large number of tourists visit Manila during the festive seasons.
The famous ‘Feast of the Black Nazarene’ takes place in the month of January. On this day, the devotees go on a parade around the wooden statue of Jesus located at Quiapo. A three day festival known as ‘Ati-Atihan’ is also celebrated in January that starts on Good Friday at Kalibo. The international music festival known as ‘Bamboo Organ Festival’ takes place for a week at St Joseph’s Church in February. The ‘Maundy Thursday’ takes place in April followed by huge processions along the churches of Manila. ‘Flores de Mayo’ and ‘San Isidro Festival’ are celebrated in May. Both these festivals are religious festivals.
The second half of the year begins with ‘Araw ng Maynila’ (Manila Day) in the month of June. It is four-day food festival that takes place at the Roxas Boulevard. The other festivals of Manila celebrated in June are the ‘Cinemanila International Film Festival’ and ‘Fete de la Musique’. ‘Subli-an sa Manila’ dance festival is

organized in the month of July. ‘Kalesa Festival’ that promotes traditional horse carriages is celebrated in September accompanied by musical performances. One of the important Manila events is the ‘Filipino Heritage Festival’ celebrated in the same month whereby stalls display handicrafts and musical and dance performances take place at various places of Manila.
