Manila Cuisine


Manila Cuisine forms an integral part of Manila art, culture and entertainment. The cuisines are a mix of Chinese, Spanish, American and Filipino cultures. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes make up the mouth watering cuisines of Manila. Rice is the staple of the Filipinos. Besides rice, people of Manila also consume fish and sea food dishes. The dishes are mainly salty and sour in flavor.

History of Manila Cuisines

Manila cuisine was first influenced by the Chinese traders who visited the place long back. They introduced noodles and soy products. Cooking methods like stir-frying and deep-frying were introduced by the Chinese traders. During the Spanish colonial rule, wide range of stews, meat dishes, dairy products and sausages were introduced. The notable
Spanish dishes are pochero, relleno, leche flan and mechado. Adobo is also a result of the Spanish influence. Finally, the Filipino cuisine was influenced by the Americans on their stay in Philippines. Slowly, Philippines were exposed to Burgers, Coca-cola and so on.
