The first Manila Cathedral was built in 1581. After that many more cathedrals were built in the same place. The present Manila Cathedral was constructed in 1951 on the remains of the older cathedrals that were built in the same place. Most of the previous cathedrals were victims of natural disasters like fires and earthquakes. One of the cathedrals was also bombed in 1945 during the Liberation of Manila.
After that the construction of the new cathedral began. The present Manila Cathedral is a masterpiece in itself.
