Cebu City Trade and Industry is mainly centered around small and medium scale business units. These enterprises are a major support to the economy of Cebu. One of the important areas of trade and industry in Cebu is the Cebu Business Park. It was created by the Ayalas. The IT industries, also created by the Ayalas, are located in the Asiatown Information Technology (IT) Park. This IT area possesses a large number of call centers, software development companies and telecommunication industries.
The downtown area is known as the main central business district of Cebu. A large number of domestic as well as international firms have come up in this area. The entry of BPOs (Business Process Outsourcing) has made the city of Cebu the second important economic center of Philippines. The central location of the city of Cebu makes it an ideal

transshipment center. It serves as the base for more than 80% of Philippines’ inter-island vessels.
The tourism industry of Cebu also contributes to the economy of the city. A number of malls and shopping centers have come up in the city. Cebu has been the host to the 1998 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) and 2002 East Asian Tourism Forum (EATOF). With the growth and development of tourism, numerous hotels have been built in the city, the first deluxe hotel being the Cebu Plaza.
