Cebu Institute of Medicine was founded in 1957. At that point of time, the institute was known as Cebu Institute of Technology, College of Medicine. It started its academic journey with 33 students. In 1966, CIT became Cebu Institute of Medicine or CIM affiliated by Velez College of Cebu. Over the years, this medical institute has grown in terms of reputation and number of students. About 4,700 medical students have passed out from CIM in 2005. It has also been certified as one of the Center of Excellence for Medicine in Cebu by the Commission on Higher Education.

Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center
This is a government hospital of Cebu. It has 400 bed capacities. Formerly, this hospital was known as

Cebu Velez General Hospital
This hospital is the primary training hospital of Cebu Institute of Medicine. The hospital provides modern and well-equipped medical facilities to the patients. It has a rehabilitation department, radiology department, intensive care unit and modern laboratory. The teaching and clinical departments of Cebu Velez General Hospital are as follows:

Admission in CIM
In CIM, medical students are offered scholarships on their performance record, and the way they perform in the entrance examination. Students have to undergo interview and also have to appear in National Medical admission Test or NMAT. The examination takes place twice in a year, generally in October and February. Diploma or certificates of graduation and the requisite admission fee have to be submitted during the time of admission in CIM, Philippines.
