Lahore Marathon is not only a mere long distance run, but also a great annual event of the city. It serves as the platform to spread the message of friendship and love to the rest of the world.
An important part of the annual Lahore Sports calendar, Lahore Marathon is in its 4th year. Supported by the Pakistani Government and different other organizations, the marathon in Lahore is participated by thousands of runners representing different countries of the world.
The Race Flags off
The overwhelming response of its first edition was a sure indication of the success of Lahore Marathon. The year 2005 saw the beginning of this wonderful event that flagged of on Sunday, 30th January. More than 17,000 people participated in the race, including 60 world-class athletes from different countries. The great run ended at the Punjab Stadium where more than 100,000 spectators stood up and clapped to cheer the successful runners. Tseko Mpolokeng of South Africa won the men's title, while Jane Kariuki of Kenya emerged as the winners among the women.

The Return of the Run
Inspired by the success of 2005, the organizers of the Lahore Marathon staged the event again on 29th January 2006. The second edition of the Lahore Marathon was greeted with tremendous enthusiasm by all sections of the Lahore society. Even physically handicapped people competed in the race in large numbers. A new segment was introduced for these people in 2006, in which the winner of the men's segment was Halefom Tsegaye from Kenya and Jane Nyambura of Kenya was the women's champion. The wheel chair segment was won by Muhammad Azhar of Pakistan.
Lahore Running
The 3rd International Lahore Marathon ensured that this exceptional event is to stay here for long. The race took place on 14th January 2007 and Lahore again proved its love for sports and celebrated the festival of friendship with great fervor. The 42 KM long race was won by Ketma Amerssissa of Ethiopia, in the men's division, and Merima Danboba of Ethiopia emerged the winner in the women's segment. Muhammad Azhar of the home country repeated his triumph in the wheel chair division.
