Lahore Government


Lahore government ensures the proper governance and administration of the city. The accurate functioning of the government in Lahore aids in providing a safe and comfortable life to the people in the metropolitan city.

There are various departments under the government of Lahore that are manned by the various civil servants. The City District government in Lahore was set up in accordance to the Local Government Plan 2000, which envisaged the establishment of such governments in the larger urban centers of the country.

The City District of Lahore, like the other cities of the country, comprises of three tiers of governance. These include, Union Administration (UA), the Town Municipal Administration (TMA) and the City District Government (CDG). The specified functions of the City District
Government of Lahore include competent management of the available resources for the benefit of the society.The city government in Lahore also has the power of acquisition of property.

The Lahore High Court has been established to aid in the proper governance of the city. Although the superior court of law had smaller subsidiaries existing prior to its establishment, the High Court of Lahore is often considered as the oldest juridical institute in the country. Apart from Lahore, the high court also has three benches at Multan, Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi respectively.

The Lahore Development authority has also been set up to facilitate proper governance of the city. This government body functions as the regulatory unit. It is responsible for planning and development of Lahore. To achieve its objects, the governing unit undertakes projects on housing and commercial development.
