Dr. Charles W. Forman, an American Presbyterian, had established the Forman Christian College in 1864. It is one of the leading educational institutions in the entire sub-continent. The college was originally known as the Lahore Christian College. The college was originally affiliated to the Calcutta University. After 1886, the University of Punjab used to award the degrees of this college. The name of the school was changed in 1894, to honor its founder.
The Forman Christian College was deemed as a University in 2004. Its course of study now includes a Baccalaureate degree program. The original strength of the college was 18 students. The total number of students, at present, is 3810. The college offers a wide range of programs that cater to the diverse streams, which include humanities, commerce, applied science, pure science, engineering and technology, religious studies, social studies, language studies and business administration. Mr. Peter Armacost is the current principal of this college.
Academic Curriculum of Forman Christian College
The academic curriculum of the college comprises of the Intermediate and Baccalaureate courses. The Intermediate curriculum comprises of the Intermediate Arts and Humanities, the A-Level Program and the Intermediate Sciences. All of these study courses are for two years. The students are instructed in the English medium.
The study courses at the University level are the baccalaureate program for duration of four years and a two years M.A. for graduates from a Pakistani University. The four years baccalaureate program, offer a wide range of subjects from humanities, natural and physical sciences, social sciences and communication. The two years masters program offers postgraduate programs in Mathematics, Economics, Political Science, English and Urdu. The semester system is followed at the masters program.
The Forman Christian College also offers MBA and Executive Development programs. The college has a vast collection of books in its Ewing Library, which numbers more than 100,000. There are reference books, dictionaries, encyclopedias,and atlases in the library.

Admission Procedure to the Forman Christian College
Admissions to the Intermediate courses of the college start after the publishing of the BISE matriculation results. Advertisements for admission into the intermediate course are placed in the Urdu and English newspapers, each year. The A level program offered by the University, is followed by students who desire to enter the U.S. or the U.K. colleges. The A level program offers subjects in four core combinations. It includes Information Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Commerce.
The baccalaureate program offers 19 majors to the students and also the facility to choose their own classes. Students have to fill up a detailed application form along with required documents and credentials. The students, who have successfully completed the merit criteria, are asked to come for an interview with the faculty of the college.
The students who are interested in pursuing the postgraduate program, has to have a B.A. or a B. Sc degree from any Pakistani University. The criteria for admission into the MBA program, is to have over 16 years of formal education. The candidate must have a four years bachelor degree or a master degree from a Pakistani university.
