The Lahore College for Women University is one of the foremost postgraduate female education institutions in Pakistan. The college was started in 1922 with strength of 60 students. There were 25 boarders among them. The rest were staff members. At that time it was an intermediate institution for women. It was affiliated to the University of Punjab. There were residential arrangements for the female students. The college is located on Jail Road, Lahore. The college was originally known as the Lahore College for Women.
The Administrative Structure of the University
The college was granted the University Charter in 2002. Consequently, it has become a self-governing unit. At the apex of the administrative system is the Governor of Punjab. He is the Chancellor of the Lahore College for Women University, Pakistan. The vice chancellor, who is also the Principal executive, is in charge of the financial and academic activities. The administrative duties also fall under his purview. The various education departments are under the charge of the Dean, Chairperson and Directors of Institute of the respective departments.
The Syndicate and the Academic Council

The University also has a host of other officials who look into the various administrative aspects of the university. The Treasurer is in charge of the financial matters of the university. The Registrar deals with the administrative aspects. The Controller of Examinations is in-charge of the examination procedures and itinerary. The Librarian is in-charge of the University library. The Syndicate ultimately controls all academic, administrative and financial processes, which is the highest authoritative body of the University. The Vice Chancellor is the chairperson of the Syndicate. The Academic Council advises the Syndicate.
Faculty Management of Lahore College for Women University
There are four faculties in the University. The faculties are in-charge of the respective deans. The research work and taught courses of the various departments are also in-charge of the deans. All of the education departments have a Board of Studies, a panel of Advance Studies and a Research Board.
Since its inception, the Lahore College for Women University has been categorically striving towards excellence in the sphere of female education. The University maintains direct contacts with various foreign universities and local industries that are connected to the sphere of Electronics, Fine Arts, Pharmacy, Mass Communication and Environmental Science.
