ISLAMABAD

Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan. Till 1958, Karachi was the capital of the nation. During the administration of Pakistani President Ayub Khan in 1958, a place north of Rawalpindi was chosen as the permanent capital and in 1967, Islamabad got the status of being the capital of Pakistan. The city built on forested land in 1960s has variety of deciduous trees. The President who is also the Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces holds the authority of the country.



Area & Location: Located in the Potohar Plateau in the northwest of the country, Islamabad is situated at 33°40' Latitude North and 73°10' Longitude East. Lies at the edge of the Pothohar plateau, south of the Margalla hills, the city covers a total area of 906 sq. km.

Tourist Attractions: Hills, gardens and museums constitute the tourist attractive places in Islamabad.

Transportation: The city has a varied transportation system that includes the Islamabad International Airport, which provide access to the city from other parts of the world. Pakistan Railways is another mode of transportation in the city that connects the city with other cities. Cars, coaches, buses, taxis and auto rickshaws include the public transport in the city.
