Location Orientation of Rotterdam

Location Orientation of Rotterdam refers to the exact position of the city. Rotterdam is located in Netherlands. It is second only to the country capital, Amsterdam, in terms of its size. Rotterdam in the past several years has occupied a place of prominence within the European continent.
This is due to the fact that the port of Rotterdam has always been an important trading port of Europe. It has been used for transporting oil to the countries located in Western Europe.

The two parts of the city are linked to each other by the Maastunnel, the Willemsspoortunnel or the Willems railway tunnel, the Beneluxtunnel, the Erasmusbrug or the Erasmus Bridge, the Van Brienenoordburg and the Koninginnebrug.

A large portion of the city of Rotterdam is dotted with dams. The city is connected to the North Sea by the harbor.

Orientation of Rotterdam

The city of Rotterdam acquired its name from one of the dams on the River Rotte. The original early settlements in this area dates back to about 900 years. In about 1150, recurrent floods resulted in the construction of dams in the region. It acquired the status of a city in 1340 conferred to it by Count Willem IV of Holland. It was the port in Rotterdam that scripted the transformation of this settlement from a small fishing village to the most important trading port in Europe.
