Feyenoord Rotterdam





Feyenoord was previously referred to as Wilhelmina. It is one of the three most popular football teams of Rotterdam, apart from the Ajax and the PSV.

Founded on July 19, 1908, Feyenoord was known by the names of Hillesluise Football Club and RVV Celeritas. On being promoted to the National Football Association in the year 1912, it was renamed as SC Feijenoord.

  • Feijenoord won the national league championship in 1924
  • It won many divisional titles in 1926, 1927, 1928 and 1929
  • Feijenoord won its second national championship in the year 1928
  • Won the first Dutch Cup in the year 1930, beating Excelior
  • In the year 1935 it won the second dutch Cup by beating Helmond Sport
  • Feijenoord won their sixth Dutch Championship in the year 1961. It also won the first professional Eredivisie Championship in the same year.
  • In the year 1962, Feijenoord won the Dutch Championship title and qualified the final of the Intertoto Cup 1961-62.
  • Feijenoord won its first double in the year 1965. Later in the year 1969, it won its second double.
  • Feijenoord attained a place in the European Cup 1965-66
  • Feijenoord participated in the European Cup 1969-70 in the year 1969
  • In the year1971 Feijenoord won their 10th Dutch Championship
Till 1971, the club was known by the name of Feijenoord. In the year 1973, it changed its name to Feyenoord.
  • The Feyenoord football club of Rotterdam won their fifth Dutch Cup in the year 1980 by beating Ajax .
  • Another Dutch Cup was won by them in the year 1992.
  • Feyenoord made their debut in UEFA Champions League during the UEFA Champions League of 1997-98
Initially the base stadium of Feyenoord was Kromme Zandweg. The sports club decided to build a new stadium at Varkenoord, which is scheduled to be completed by 2016.

One of the most popular football clubs in Rotterdam, the Feyenoord has a Supportersvereniging, a TIFO team, Kameraadjes and a training team. Each of these teams cater to demands of the Feyenoord fans belonging to different age groups. It lets the fans to have a close insight into the history of the team and its members. Fans can also get the opportunity to meet their favorite players while they are practicing on the grounds. Various programs involving the fans are also organized by the Supportersvereniging making games even more interesting.

With its sporting achievements, Feyenoord has established Rotterdam as an important football venue in Netherlands.
