Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus - professional life
Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus toured many places throughout his life. His pursuit of academics led him to places like Paris, England, Basel and Louvain. He served as Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity at Cambridge for a short duration. He was later offered many prestigious positions in reputed institutes but he declined all such offers.
Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus - literary works
Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus works concentrated mainly on literature and religion. Though he adhered to papal authority and the Christian Church, Erasmus was against the formalism practiced. Some of the famous literary works of Erasmus are as follows:

According to Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus, the teachings of Christ were becoming entangled in the traditions and customs. However, he was not in favor of creating another order. So he declined the offer of Luther to join the latter in forming the order of Protestantism. Erasmus believed that the scope of reforms was within Christianity itself.
Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus, a prominent scholar originating in Rotterdam, died at Basel, Switzerland, on July 12, 1536.
