Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam

A visit to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is an exhilarating and enriching experience. The Van Gogh Museum is the ultimate destination for connoisseurs of art from across the globe.
It is the repository for most of the paintings by the Dutch Master, Vincent Van Gogh. The display projects his entire collection of works and provides the students of arts with an extensive insight into the development of his work. There is also ample scope for the viewer to determine the style of Van Gogh's art and the way in which he differed from his predecessors or his contemporaries.

Established in 1973, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam houses around 500 sketches, 200 paintings and about 700 epistolary accounts. There is also a collection of Japanese prints that was the work of the master painter himself. Van Gogh's brother, Theo Van Gogh was the possessor of this invaluable collection. Despite the sale of some of his works, a large portion of it was retained. It passed on to his son after his demise who gave it all away to the Vincent Van Gogh Foundation.

At present the Museum functions on the money derived from the sale of tickets and the money that it receives from the Sponsor Lottery. Apart from the works of Vincent Van Gogh it also exhibits works by other 19th century artists like Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Gauguin, Jean Francois Millet and Leon Lhermitte.
