The government of Amsterdam comprises the Mayor, the City Council, the College and the Council Committees. The city is divided into 15 Stadsdelen so that the administration of the different areas can be managed properly.
Government of Amsterdam controls the administrative policies of the city. The City Council, the College of Aldermen, the Mayor and the Council Committees together form the government of Amsterdam, which is divided into various Stadsdelen. 14 of these Stadsdelen are locally governed by their own councils. The Central Municipal Council governs the fifteenth Stadsdelen of Westpoort.
Amsterdam City Council
It is one of the major governing bodies of the government of Amsterdam. The council comprises of 45 members. The residents of the city elect the members of the council. They remain in power for 4 years. The council acts as the highest authority of the city. All the important decisions regarding the current issues are taken in the weekly meeting, which is open to the citizens of Amsterdam.
The College of Aldermen
It forms another important part of the Amsterdam

Government. The everyday functions are run by the college, which include the mayor and eight aldermen. But any decision taken by the college must be approved by the council. The meetings of the college cannot be attended by public.
Mayor of Amsterdam
The monarch appoints the Mayor of Amsterdam. He is the chief of the police department. The main responsibilities of the mayor include ensuring safety and security of the public, dealing with legal affairs, controlling administrative system, improvement of career prospect in Amsterdam, supervising international relations and other addressing other issues.
Council Committees of Amsterdam
It plays a very important role in the government of Amsterdam. The members of the council including the eight aldermen as well as the associate councilors (means the small party representatives who have not being elected in the council) form these 9 committees. Any proposal is first discussed in these committees and then it is approved by the council.
