Amsterdam Education


The city of Amsterdam boasts of a high level of education with its wide variety of primary, secondary, graduate schools and universities. Amsterdam education standards are quite high and the city has produced several laureates in the past and is still continuing to do so. The city has about 3500 professors and 37,000 pupils receiving education in the two universities of Amsterdam and another 29,000 students in 17 vocational institutes.

One of the well-known English-medium schools of the city is the British School of Amsterdam which was established in the year 1980. Amsterdam International Community School

Another well-known educational institute of Amsterdam is the Amsterdam International Community School which is an International Baccalaureate School offering education of international standards. This school follows the International Primary Curriculum and provides knowledge on various courses.

University of Amsterdam

The University of Amsterdam is another renowned university in Amsterdam and is probably the largest in the city. This university is located in the heart of the centre and has more than 22,000 students. This university was established in the year 1632 and offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in a variety of courses.

VU University in Amsterdam

The VU University in Amsterdam is a Free University which was set up in the year 1880. This university works as an autonomous body as the state and church authorities are not allowed to interfere in the organization of the university. This University is located in South West Amsterdam and offers about 50 undergraduate and 100 Master degree programs.
