History of the British School of Amsterdam

The British School at Amsterdam was founded in the year 1980 and has rapidly advanced from a small school with 10 pupils to its current status of more than 650 pupils (as of 2003). The school was primarily established as a division of a Dutch primary school in South Amsterdam. The school then shifted to Jan van Eijckstraat in 1983 and has remained there till date; though only the Junior school is located at this place. The school has constantly grown in terms of the number of students. The Upper School is located on Fred. Roekestraat and is 1.5kms away from the Junior School.

National Curriculum of the British School of Amsterdam

The British School in Amsterdam follows the National Curriculum for its educational programs. The National Curriculum is divided into 5 parts—key stage 1 for classes 1 and 2, key stage 2 for classes 3 to 6, key stage 3 for classes 7 to 9, key stage 4 for classes 10 and 11 and key stage 5 for classes 11 and 12. This entire curriculum is divided into two parts- core and foundation subjects. The foundation subjects include geography, history, art, physical education, foreign languages and design technology. The core subjects include math, science and information communication technology and English.

The British School of Amsterdam is a non-profit making organization and is administered by an elected Board of Governors. The admission form is available on the official website and the school fee is generally variable in each educational year.

Facilities in British School of Amsterdam

The British School in Amsterdam provides school transport facilities for its pupils. The Junior School children are advised to bring their own food while those in the Upper School can have their meals at the school premises itself. The school offers a daily hot lunch service for Upper School students and there are tuck shops as well.
