Allard Pierson Museum is a part of the Mediterranean Archeology Department of Amsterdam University. The collections include mummies and sarcophagi, sculptures of Egyptian Gods.

Named after the foremost professor of Archeology, Allard Pierson, of Universiteit van Amsterdam, the Allard Pierson Museum has proved to be an important sightseeing attraction in the city. Now, a part of the Mediterranean Archeology Department in the Amsterdam University, the Allard Pierson Museum houses artifacts from around the world that enable the study of world culture from a critical perspective.

Allard Pierson Museum Collections
The antiquities in the Allard Pierson Museum houses artifacts that underline the ancient Egyptian and Greek culture. Collectibles dating back to 4000 BC and 500 BC include potteries, sculpture, model temples and many more. Some of the other artifacts include:
  • Mummies and sarcophagi
  • Images and sculptures of Egyptian gods and goddesses
  • Small scale models of the pyramid of Giza and the Temple of Edfu

The main attraction of the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam is the screening of a documentary film that showcases the process of mummification in Egypt. The exhibitions that are organized by the Museum authorities are particularly interesting for their detailed insight into the lifestyle of the people in ancient Greece. Organized thematically, the collectibles also include weapons, statues, jewelery, glassware, coins and many more. The plaster cast attic forms an integral part of the Allard Pierson Museum. This section in the museum preserves numerous replicas of Greek and Roman statues.

Allard Pierson Museum: Information
The museum is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, the museum is open from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The entrance fee for adults is Euro 5 and that of children is Euro 2.50.

The Allard Pierson Museum is easily accessible from all parts of the city. You can avail tram lines 4, 9, 16, 24 and 25 from the Central Station and reach the museum.
