Kantipur Kathmandu


Kantipur is a renowned name in Kathmandu media, and publicity industry. Kantipur Group in Nepal owns a publishing house, runs a private radio channel, and has promoted a private television network. The journey of this pioneering private group in Kathmandu began with the establishment of Kantipur Publications Private Limited in February 1993.

In Black and White - Kantipur Publications Private Limited

Kantipur Publications is the flagship company of this group. Kantipur and The Kathmandu Post are the two dailies published in Nepali and English respectively. Kantipur newspaper has a daily circulation of over 210,000 copies, and The Kathmandu Post has a circulation figure of over 40,000 daily. The other publications include:
  • 'Saptakhik', a family entertainment tabloid published weekly in the local vernacular has a circulation of 80,000. Nepal Weekly published in Nepali is a periodical news magazine focusing on social, political and economic issues. Weekly around 35,000 copies of this magazine is sold.

  • 'Nari', Nepal's first women's magazine in the Nepalese has a circulation of nearly 32,000. This magazine contains articles and features in literature, art, health, beauty, lifestyle, glamor, interior decoration, family matters, and social issues.
In 2001, the Chief Editor, Director, and Managing Director of Kantipur Publications Private Limited were taken to custody for allegedly publishing controversial articles. They however were subsequently released after withdrawal of all their charges.

Thus Kantipur Publications have advocated the cause of free press in Nepal. They are the first Nepali media company to become member of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN).

The Best FM - Kantipur FM 96.1

Established in October 1998, Kantipur 96.1 FM caters to over 96 % of all the radio listeners in Eastern Nepal. Its accurate news broadcasts, together with lively programs on entertainment, lifestyle, leisure and music has helped itself to be established as the premier private radio channel of Kathmandu and Nepal. Their studios are equipped with the updated AudioVault Workstations which allow tracking, playing and recording simultaneously. To encourage budding talents in all spheres of music, Kantipur FM 96.1 felicitates singers, musicians, lyricists, and bands every year on its anniversary date.

You See Your Hear - Kantipur Television Network

Kantipur Television Network, popularly called KTV is aiming to become the largest private television network in Nepal in terms of capital invested. Established on 13th July, 2003m this non-exclusive channel telecasts news, current affairs, and general entertainment programs. Entertainment programs constitute 60% of its total telecast, and the balance 40% is dedicated for news and current affairs. KTV has a total employee strength of over 300.

Kantipur Group has also launched eKantipur.com, an Internet portal which features current events, celebrity profiles, photo-features, music, shopping, lifestyle, model watch, business watch, and travel.
