Tourists can also visit Dharan from Biratnagar. From Biratnagar, it takes a time of 2 hours to reach Dharan in a car.
Dharan is situated at an altitude of 1200 feet from the sea level. The British established their settlement in Dharan. In 1953 the Gorkha Recruitment Center was set up here. This place is mainly inhabited by Limbus and Rais.

The Pakhri Bash is another place to visit while on a trip from Kathmandu to Dharan. For the Gorkha Regiment the British set up a base camp in the rural area of Pakhri Bash. Here visitors can check out with the old church and some monuments built by the the British. Some like to get a taste of a local liquor of this region known as Thongba.
