Changu Narayan Temple is situated 22 kilometers away from the city of Kathmandu. It is Katmandu's oldest temple. From Bhaktapur, this temple is easily accessible. Bhaktapur is a major city in the Kathmandu Valley and is around 16 kilometers from the Kathmandu city center.
From Bhaktapur, a person can reach Changu Narayan via Nagarkot. Altogether 30 minutes drive is required to reach Changu Narayan Temple from Bhaktapur. Changu Narayan Temple is Kathmandu valley's oldest temple. During the 4th century this Hindu temple was set up by King Haridutta Varma. It is made up of metal, wood and stone. This temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. Here an image of Vishnu can be seen. This Vishnu image has ten arms and ten heads.
Some other major attractions in this temple of Nepal are statues of Bhupendra Malla (King of Kathmandu), sculpture of Lord Vishnu and Vishwaroop graven image of Garuda the stone carved idol of Vishnu Vikrant and image of Narsimhha Vishnu.
In 1979 AD, this temple was declared a World Heritage Site. This famous temple comprises 2 floors and reflects the rich pagoda style of architecture. Throughout the year many devotees come from Kathmandu to Changu Narayan Temple to offer their prayer to Lord Shiva
