Bada Dashain is a very popular festival in Kathmandu in Nepal. This festival is generally celebrated during the last weeks of September or in the middle of October. This festival marks the destruction of evil power. Bada Dashain is also known by the varied names of Dasara, Vijaya Dashain or Dashain.
A legend is associated with Bada Dashain. Goddess Durga of Hindu mythology killed the evil spirit on the day of Bada Dashain. To celebrate this auspicious day, animals are offered for sacrifices at the temples in Kathmandu on the ninth day of the festival.
The festival of Bada Dashain lasts for 10 days. On the seventh day of Bada Dashain, the officials of the government take part in a procession.

This day is called Fullpati in Kathmandu. The ultimate day of the festival is called Tika. On this final day, people visit their relatives' house and exchange gifts. On the forehead, people put up red marks on this festival day.
