Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, built in 1910, is the center of all railways running across the region. In the year 1986 the station underwent extensive refurbishment. The railway station is located at a close distance from the Railway Administration Building, the National Mosque and the Dayabumi Complex. The station was designed and constructed by British architect Arthur Bension Hubback. With the closing off of the Sultan Street Station and the destruction of the Resident Station, the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station emerged as the main railway station of the region.
Kuala Lumpur Railway Station Architecture
A fine blend of the eastern and western form of architecture can be seen in the magnificent building of the railway station. While at a nascent stage the railway station constituted of only three platforms and a main station building. After many renovations and additions, the station building was given a new dimension. Presently, the main building, which reflects a fine blend of Mughal and Western style of architecture, consists of a hall and a ticket counter. Horseshoe and Orgee arches and huge chattries can be found on every corner of the railway station.

painted in white or cream all over. The platforms are covered with steel frame shelters and the roofs are made of corrugated roof sheets.Under ground passages at the railway station connect the main building and the platforms. In 1986, with the renovation of the station, the platform was extended. This new extension of the platform was done in a conventional architectural pattern with concrete pillars on a concrete slab supporting a latticed roof. A new ticket counter was provided two stories above the ground level on the northern side of the extended platform. This new extension of the platform is interlinked to Dayabumi through a high alley.
