Kuala Lumpur rail consists of monorail, commuter rail system and airport rail link. The railways in Kuala Lumpur also comprise light rail transit and rapid transit. Bandar Tasik Selatan station, KL Sentral and Masjid Jamek are the three important railway transit hubs in Kuala Lumpur.

Sentul-Port Klang Line and Rawang-Seremban Line are the commuter rail lines that function under KTM Komuter. An electrified commuter rail, KTM Komuter operates under Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad. This railway network was introduced in the year 1995. This 175-kilometer network includes 45 rail stations.

KL Monorail is the only monorail link that was introduced in Kuala Lumpur in 2003. Consisting of 8.6 kilometers track with 11 stations, this railway network links Kuala Lumpur Sentral with Bukit Bintang.

Driverless Metro System of Kuala Lumpur

With the introduction of an automated transportation system in Kuala Lumpur, Light Rail came into existence in 1998. This mass transit system was taken over by the Government of Kuala Lumpur in 2001. In the year 2002, it was renamed as Purtaline and
Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad took the responsibility of reconstructing the railway network. Furthermore, in 2004, it was transferred to Rapid KL, however, the ownership of the transit was still held by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad. The transit system was renamed as Kelana Jaya Line in 2005. At present, the Kelana Jaya Line is the world's second longest metro system, which is 29 kilometers long and is completely automated, as well as driverless. Ampang Lune is the light rail transit that operates within the city of Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur Railway Station

Kuala Lumpur Railway Station was constructed in the early 20th century. It was the railway hub for the Malayan Railway and Federated Malay States Railway. Kuala Lumpur Railway Station is known for its architecture, which presents a rich blend of Western and Eastern designs. It is located on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin road at a proximity to Dayabumi Complex and Railway Administration Building.

The first railway station of Kuala Lumpur was situated near the British Resident. Also known as Resident Station, it connects the city to the other areas of the Malay Peninsula. Resident Station was known for its nipah palm roof and wooden construct. Sultan Street Station is known to be the second railway station of the city, which was constructed towards the end of the 19th century. Towards the mid-20th century, this railway station was replaced by a terminal station.
