The National Science Center, also known as the Pusat Sains Negara, is situated on top of a hill in Persiaran Bukit Kiara in the northwestern part of Kuala Lumpur. This green dome shaped structure houses an extensive collection of scientific models that inculcate the diverse theories and laws of science.
The National Science Center was inaugurated in 1996, by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad. The primary aim of the National Science Center is to increase scientific awareness. It houses nine galleries, which showcase various scientific exhibits.
Promotion of Science and Technology
The nine galleries of the National Science Center or PSN embody diverse scientific laws and theories. The science galleries are divided into two sections- 'Basic Sciences' and 'Technology'. The PSN aims at raising awareness towards science and technology and applying the scientific laws in daily life.
Tropical Aquarium and Environmental Odyssey
Exploration of the National Science Center in Kuala Lumpur begins with a journey through the underwater tropical aquarium, filled with fresh water fish. This is followed by a trip to the 'Environmental Odyssey' which shows the dangers encountered by the tropical environmental. Visitors are made aware of how the ecological balance is being disrupted by the daily world.
The Different Scientific Galleries
The section named 'Pathway to Science' at the National Science Center of Kuala Lumpur gives a clear understanding of the physics, biology, chemistry and astronomical science.

Another interesting section is the 'Pathway to Discovery' that analyzes and interprets scientific facts. The gallery named 'Thinking Machine', showcases how computers and telecommunication machinery contribute to making our daily life much easier. 'Future World' explores the realm of technology. 'TechnoMal' showcases the advances made by Malaysia in the arena of science and technology. 'Digital Lifestyle' is another interesting section devoted to modern electronic equipments and their use in daily life. The 'Inventors' Corner' is devoted to recent inventions in the scientific field.
Children Educational Center and Science Education Park
Children will find interest in the Children Educational Center' of the National Science Center at Kuala Lumpur. There is a 'space lab' and an artificial ocean where children can undertake an adventure. The most interesting segment is the 'Science Education Park' which provides valuable knowledge in Zoology, Botany and Agricultural Science. Students gather first hand experience about the different plants and trees. Various types of animals are reared in the park. These include the deer, duck, rabbit and the sheep. There is also an aquaculture pond present at the National Science Center Kuala Lumpur.
The National Science Center is also equipped with a coffee shop, an auditorium and a science shop. Visitors can also browse in the multimedia library.
National Science Center Timings
The National Science Center remains open from 10:00 A.M. in the morning to 5:00 P.M. throughout the week except on Fridays. The National Science Center seeks to imbibe people with an inquisitive mindset regarding scientific activities. It intends to stimulate the mind of children and to promote self-learning among them. The National Science Center provides valuable knowledge about the basic and natural sciences.
