The Kuala Selangor Nature Park is situated at the orifice of the River Selangor in Malaysia. The Nature Park lies in the north-westerly direction of Kuala Lumpur. The area covered by the park is approximately 800 acres. The park is jointly managed by the Malaysian Nature Society and the Selangor State Government. The Nature Park is home to a host of creatures like monkeys, birds, crabs, otters, and mudskippers. The park area mostly comprises of mangrove forests and mud flats.
Beautiful Birds
The migration season (September to March) affords a rare sight of beautiful shore birds like the Norman Greenshank, plovers, herons, sandpipers of varied species, and Mangrove Pitta. The Milky Stork, which falls under the domain of the endangered species, is being afforded with a special breeding program in a nearby aviary. The residential birds like the Sunbirds, Woodpeckers, and Maholkas can also be seen in this wild life reserve.
Monkeys, Lizards, Fireflies and more!
The Nature Park abounds in Silvered Leaf Monkeys or Silvered Langur, who are renowned to be highly vocal.

These monkeys are grey-black in color and are large and long-tailed. The Macaque is seen in lesser number in this Park as compared to the Silvered Langur. Lizards and shrinks are found in large numbers in the forest. Different varieties of insects, butterflies, reptiles, crabs, lobsters and fish are found over here. The kingfishers and bee-eaters also add to the lot. At night, owls, fireflies (known in the local dialect as "kelip-kelip") and nightjars abound in large numbers. The fluorescent appearance of the fireflies is a delight to the eye. The mengkudu, a medicinal plant, is found in this reserve.
Haven of Bird Watchers'
The Kuala Selangor Nature Park is a bird watcher's paradise. Visitors should be equipped with binoculars and cameras to get a better picture of the varied species of flora and fauna found in this reserve. The period between August and April affords a good sight of the myriad birds that inhabit the forest reserve. In order to aid animal buffs, special chalets are provided which have provisions for night stay. The chalets have running water, electricity and mosquito nets.
A visit to the Kuala Selangor Nature Park would provide tourists with a memorable experience. The varied species of flora and fauna observable in this reserve is a delight to the eye.
