Central Market in Kuala Lumpur is one of the largest wholesale markets in the city. The Malaysian tradition of art and craft is reflected in the items that are sold in this market. The market, which started off in 1928, had since then been considered to be the biggest market in terms of stock. The tourists as well as the local residents equally benefit from this market since they can get anything they wish to from this market.

Central Market is one of the oldest markets in Kuala Lumpur and is regarded as a storehouse of Kuala Lumpur's traditional handicrafts. The Central Market was built in 1928 and since then it has been regarded as the largest market. This market in Kuala Lumpur is situated at the interconnection of Lebuh Pasar Besar and Jalan Benteng. The Central Market of Kuala Lumpur was previously known as the Wet Market.

This central cum shopping mall houses the largest collection of goods in the city. There are several shops selling handicrafts, T shirts, batik cloth, souvenirs and masks that are hand painted. Since 1986, 130 shops have been selling various products to the people. The Central Park at Kuala Lumpur is the best place to get a glimpse of Malaysian art and craft and culture as it are reflected in the goods available in the market.
Lots of sculptures of the Chinese and the Hindu deities are available in the market. These also give one an idea on the religious aspects of the city.

Orang Asli sculptures made of wood are also at display in the market. The best aspect about this market is that it sells various goods but at a reasonable price so that a large cross section of people could afford it. The special attraction of the Central Market is that the interested visitors can get their portraits painted by artists and they could also buy specially made handicrafts.

There are eateries in the market also for the convenience of the visitors. Some of them sell authentic Malaysian dishes while others offer dishes from international cuisine. There are fast food kiosks present as well. However, when one has finished shopping he/she can visit the amphitheater along the side of the river. A number of live performances take place in the theater like Malaysian traditional dance shows and puppet shows.

Hence, this is the biggest and best market in Kuala Lumpur in terms of products and price. Therefore, tourists should definitely visit the Central Market of Kuala Lumpur when they are on a tour in this city.
