Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia. Founded in 1857 at the confluence of the Gombak and Klang rivers, the city is one of the three Malaysian Federal Territories. The name Malay means ‘muddy confluence’. Inside the country, the city is often referred to as ‘KL’. The settlement began with the opening up of the Klang Valley for tin prospectors by Raja Abdullah. Kapitan Yap helped to revive the city, which was completely destroyed by the civil war. In 1880, it became the capital of Selangor and later turned into a center of commerce in Selangor. Later in 1896, after the incorporation of the Federated Malay States with the Swettenham, the city was made the capital of Malaysia. The city has now developed much with many skyscrapers and has become the largest city in the country and is one of the top ten Asian cities.
Tourist Attractions: With its well-built infrastructure, Kuala Lumpur has become a popular tourist destination.
Transportation: Kuala Lumpur International Airport that handles all domestic as well as international airlines serves the city. The extensive road network in the city leads it to all parts of Peninsular Malaysia. The seven highways in the city link it with other cities and neighboring countries. The three light rail transit and a monorail system ease the traffic congestion of the city. The buses and taxis are the other public transportation facilities introduced in the city as a solution to the problems faced by the commuters.

Dataran Merdeka –the Independence Square, Muzium Negara –the National Museum, The Masjid Negara –the National Mosque and Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve- a small tropical forest include the other interesting and informative sites in Kuala Lumpur.
