Tripoli




With a history dating back to 8th century B.C, Tripoli in Lebanon evokes the magical charm of 'Arabian Nights'. Still retaining its quintessential characteristics Tripoli is an interesting tourist destination as well as a major city of Lebanon.
The city of Tripoli can be divided into two sections. One is the port region and the other is the main city.

While touring Tripoli one comes across a number of religious structures. Mosques like the great Mosque, Taynal, Al-Muallaq Burtasiyat Madrassa, Qartawiyat Madrassa are a remarkable group of structures that are interesting to visit and their architectural beauty is highly praiseworthy. The most beautiful structure is the Saint Gilles' Citadel. It provides a panoramic and brilliant view of the surrounding areas. At a little distance from the old town is the Lion's Tower which is a remnant of the Mameluke period.

Tripoli is very popular for its sweets and soaps which are made from olive oil. The area around the port consists of a series of restaurants serving delicious seafood. Fish markets are also found in this region. Accommodation provisions are provided by the well equipped hotels and beach resorts which are available along the coasts. Tripoli with a variety of features is an interesting site to visit while in Lebanon.
