Lebanese American University- the Beginning
The foundations of the Lebanese American University were laid as early as 1835 as the American School for Girls. This initiative of the American Presbyterian missionaries was the beginning of a long journey that finally concluded with the establishment of the University in its present quarters.
Years later, the school attained a new stature when a two year program was incorporated taking it to the next level of a junior college. It became an autonomous institution in 1927 and was now called the American Junior College for Women. 1948-49 saw the transformation of the college into an institution of the university level. It underwent a change of name and was henceforth known as the Beirut College for Women. Gradually it acquired the right to grant degrees like the Associate in Applied Sciences or the A.A.S and the Associate in Arts or the A.A along with B.A and B.S degrees.
It has now acquired the status of one of the leading universities in the country. It underwent another change of name in 1973 and came to be known as the Beirut University College. It now opened its doors for male students. With the increase in the number of students the Beirut University College opened a second campus at Byblos which was formally inaugurated in 1992. In the same year, it was declared to be a University by the Board of Regents. It was now called the Lebanese American University.

The Beirut Campus of the Lebanese American University is located at Ras Beirut and comprises of nine buildings and has been beautified with Mediterranean trees. The Byblos campus of the University is located at Blat. Established in its present premises in 1987, the campus houses the Engineering and Architecture, Pharmacy, Business and Arts & Sciences Schools.
