Beirut has been the home to a number of artists for several decades. The Department of Art and Culture in Beirut offers financial support to art schools as well as various troops. Many of the fine arts and theatrical movements have been encouraged by this department.

Beirut is famous for its traditional art of boat building. Other than that, some of the popular handicraft works include jewelry manufacturing, sadu tailoring, making clothes adorned with gold and silver embellishments, pearl industry etc. Various performances including folk songs and folk dances take place at different venues through out the year.

Historical and Archaeological Sites of Beirut:

There are many historical as well as archaeological sites in the city which exhibit a marvelous collection of
artifacts from ancient times till date. Some such sites are Folklore Museum, Murawab Fort, Al Jussasiyah, Borj Bazann Tower, Rukayat Fort, etc.

Beirut Food:

Food is an integral part of Beirut culture. The main dishes are usually cooked rice, meat, vegetables, pulses, etc. Cucumber, tomato, cheese, nuts, sesame are common ingredients used in Beirut food. Onion, garlic and mint are used to add flavor. The use of eastern spices makes Beirut food exceptionally tasty. The garnishing of food items is very important in Beirut.

Beirut Religion:

Religion has played a significant role in Beirut culture since times immemorial. Christianity and Islam are the two major religions of Beirut. The Sunnis and Shiites form the major Muslim population of the city and Maronites form the major Christian population of Beirut. Other than these two religions, Judaism had made significant contributions towards the cultural and political development of the city.

Beirut Nightlife – Unlimited Entertainment:

Beirut is known for its happening nightlife. The major entertainment hubs of Beirut include casinos, nightclubs, bars, pubs, cinemas and discos.
