The archeological excavations in Beirut have unveiled several traces of ancient era which throws light on the early Beirut. According to several historic evidences, Beirut was discovered and colonized by the Egyptians. During this era, Beirut was positioned in the valley region of two mounds near Mediterranean. The terrain of Beirut was characterized with extremely fertile land area. The strategic location of the city made it highly appropriate for trading and business. The River Beirut helped the dwellers to access any region of the city or neighborhood and helped in the growth of trade and commerce in the city.
The Rulers who invaded Ancient Beirut

Though Syrian rulers have a great contribution towards building up Beirut as a prominent city, but when the Romans invaded Beirut during 14th century B.C, the city achieved a distinguished position in the west. The Law School, established by the Roman rulers in 300 AD, earned great fame for the city. But in 551 AD, the Roman rule collapsed in Beirut. The reason for collapse of the Roman Empire in Beirut is accredited by many to various natural calamities like earthquakes and destructive tidal waves that devastated the entire city. Thereafter, it was the Muslim and Christian rulers who reconstructed the city of Beirut and it attained the repute of being an eminent port city of the Mediterranean region.
