Since its inception the American University of Beirut has made a difference to the system of education not only in Beirut but also across the world by setting up parameters which settle for nothing but excellence.
The American University of Beirut was established in 1866. From the very beginning, it was to function as an independent and private educational institution with a non-sectarian stand. It began operating by virtue of a charter issued by the State of New York. From a very humble beginning, with just 16 students, it went from strength to strength to become one of the leading universities in the world. At present, the university comprises of about 7000 students and occupies a sprawling campus covering 73 acres of land.

The American University in Beirut offers courses and programs in a wide variety of subjects, prominent amongst them being the American liberal arts. The lessons are imparted in English. It houses a large collection of data pertaining to subjects like geology, zoology, natural history and botany. The American University of Beirut also extends financial aid to the students in need of the same. They are provided with Need based student loans and grants along with graduate fellowships, work study programs and merit scholarships.
