The date of the constructions can be traced back to third millennium B.C. However it has been proved that there was an enclosed court in the 1st millennium. The altar in the middle was set following the Biblical Semitic high places. The city came to be known as Heliopolis or the City of the Sun after the Greeks identified the God of Baalbeck with the sun God.
At this point of time, along with the expansion of the court, a podium was erected on the western side so that the temple made in the classical form can be supported.
