Nairobi Universities


Nairobi universities offer the students of Kenya opportunities to pursue higher study. Some of the universities were formerly university-colleges, which later attained the status of universities. Along with providing training and courses in graduate and postgraduate level, the universities also carry on different research programs.

Quality education and emphasis on development of personality is given in the educational institutions of Nairobi. Not only formal education but the institutions of higher education take care of the all round development of the students and make them aware of their duties towards their society. University of Nairobi, Strathmore University, Daystar University and Kenyatta University are some of the reputed universities of Nairobi.

The Nairobi universities offer graduate courses, postgraduate courses, diploma courses and several courses of short duration. Postgraduate diploma programs are also carried on in the universities. Many universities have set up e-learning courses for students who cannot attend regular classes. Centers for distance learning has been also set up at the universities.

The University College of Nairobi was recognized as a national university in 1970. From then onwards the
institution came to be known as the University of Nairobi. This university has 6 colleges under it. It has different departments like Dental Sciences, Economics, Education, Business, Arts and Science. A well-maintained library, health services and placement cell are some of the noteworthy facilities offered by the University of Nairobi.

Strathmore University received the grant to operate as a university in Nairobi. Along with graduate and postgraduate courses, the university has several short programs, certificate and diploma courses for students. Business Administration, Commerce and Business Information Technology are some of the noted departments of this university.

Daystar University was previously known as the Daystar Communication. The college campus was shifted to Nairobi in Kenya from Zimbabwe. After being recognized as Daystar University College, it acquired the stature of a university in Nairobi in 1994. Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Diploma courses can be pursued here.

Kenyatta University also started as Kenyatta University College in Nairobi. The institution became a university after it was part of the University of Nairobi for some time. The Kenyatta University Act recognized the college as a university in 1970.
