Among the newspapers of Nairobi, The Standard is a prominent name. It is also one of the oldest newspapers of the country. This newspaper belongs to The Standard Group. The head office of this Nairobi newspaper has been set up in the I & M Bank Tower in the capital city of Kenya.
The Standard was previously known as the African Standard. It was first published in 1902 from Mombasa. Alibhai Mulla started publishing this newspaper. The edition of the newspaper was published on a weekly basis in the initial years. But soon in 1905 the newspaper was bought by English businessmen.
From then onwards the newspaper was published every day and was renamed as the East African

Standard. In 1910 the main office of the newspaper house was also shifted to Nairobi.
The owner of the The Standard again changed as its ownership was taken over by the Lonrho Group in 1963. In 1977, the name of the paper was changed to The Standard. However, soon after it was called by its previous name, East African Standard. The ownership of the newspaper again changed in 1995. In 2004, the newspaper was finally renamed to its present name of The Standard.
The Standard publishes news of Nairobi and of east African regions. It has different sections for news of sports, business and politics. The newspaper also features an editorial column.
