Nairobi National Park is a wildlife park in the south-central part of Kenya. It is located at an approximate distance of 8 kilometers from southern part of Nairobi. This national park was established in the year 1946. It is spread over the land estimating 117 square kilometers and is considered to be the first Kenyan National Park.
Wildlife Park in Nairobi - The Destination for the Animal-Lovers
In the park, visitors will come across several animal species. Some such are rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo, crocodile, hippo, eland, zebra, cheetah and giraffe. Bird watchers will also have a wonderful experience while roaming around this park. This national park of Nairobi is a major tourist destination in Kenya. All through the year, many tourists from across the world come here to watch its wonderful flora and fauna collection. This park is filled up with acacia bush and the animals are seen to move on the open grass plains.
In its western part there is a dry forest and a river. In the southern side of this permanent river, visitors will come across a riverine forest. Besides these, deep gorges and rocky valleys are also found inside this park. In order to attract different types of bird species, herbivores and other living beings, several artificial dams are constructed over here.

In this National Park Nairobi, around 400 species of bird can be seen. Some of them are migratory birds, so all through the year they cannot be seen. Usually, from March to April, northern migrants fly through this park.
Rhino sanctuaries are the chief attractions of this place. Here people can see black rhino. Presently, around 50 rhinos were handed over to this park authority, in order to protect them from the act of poaching. In the southern part of this wildlife park of Nairobi, there are Kitengela Migration and Athi-Kapiti Plains.
Some of the unique plant species growing in this park include brevitorta, Euphobia, crassula, Murdannia clarkeana, Drimia calcarata, Apodytes, schimperanum, dimidiata, Elaeodendron buchananii,schimperanum, Newtonia, Rhus natalensis, Aspilia mossambicensis, Cyprus, Digitaria, Themeda, Cynodon, calodendrum, Olea africana and Brachylaena hutchinsii.
This Nairobi National Park comprises 7 gates, the main gate of which allows entrance through KWS headquarters. Other gates are Cheetah Gate, East Gate, Maasai Gate and Lang'ata Gate. Beside this, for the staff, this park offers 2 separate gates. They are Banda and Mbagathi gate. Usually, through Langata Road, this park of Nairobi can be easily accessed. Masai Safari Lodge is located quite close to this park of Nairobi. Apart from this, there are few hotels located close to the park.
