National Museums of Kenya is abbreviated as NMK. It is a state corporation that is set up by 2006 Museums and Heritage Act. The primary role of this institution is to preserve the past heritage of Nairobi. Beside this, it also collect and study document that helps to preserve the present and future cultural heritage of Kenya. The headquarters of this National Museums of Kenya is located at Museum Hill.
NMK looks after a number of museums and monuments. This organization is working hard towards the national development. This museum was set up in the year 1910. One of the remarkable recent achievements of this organization is the discovery of fossils of the apes by Dr. Frederick Manthi.
Some of the museums that are looked after by National Museums of Kenya are Rabai Museum, Fort Jesus Museum, Malindi Museum, Gede Museum, Loiyangalani museum, Kariandusi museum, Meru museum, Kabarnet museum, Lamu museum, Nairobi Gallery, Kitale museum, Kisumu, Kapenguria, Kisumu museum and Karen Blixen.
