The history of Nairobi, Kenya, goes back to several centuries, however, the official records of Nairobi history can be traced back to the late 19th century. This was the time when the British had occupied Nairobi along with other parts of Africa for the purpose of colonization. Previously Mombasa had been chosen as the capital of East Africa but later on the importance shifted to Nairobi.
Nairobi was undergoing development since the laying down of the railway tracks in 1896. It was in 1926 that Nairobi was officially recognized as a city. It went on to become the capital of British East Africa Protectorate.

In fact, between 1899 and 1905, Nairobi served as the provincial capital of the British Empire.
The 1926 plan of Nairobi had a number of important development plans in the region, but not all of it was implemented in practice. The problem was due to the fact that Second World War broke out and naturally, the attention of the British rulers diverted to the war. However, Nairobi to this continues to be the most important city and the capital of Kenya.
Kenya attained freedom from colonial rule in 1963 and Nairobi was accepted as the capital of the country.
